Dear parents and carers,
I hope to add more useful information and updates to this page as time goes on. As I am sure you can imagine, I have had a busy first half term getting to know the class and the school! I am very happy to be working at Yaxham Primary, where I feel there is a wonderful, positive atmosphere with staff and children working together to create rewarding learning opportunities. Eagles are a lovely class; I have had a brilliant time so far and I am looking forward to our time ahead.
I will update the website soon with more information about our learning for the year. In the meantime, here is an overview of what we have done so far:
In the first half term our topic has been 'Natural Disasters' and we have been looking at earthquakes & tsunamis, storms and flooding. We have concentrated on the physical causes and the impact on humans. We have used maps, atlases and computers to find out more and we have been discussing some of the disasters that have been happening recently in the world, such as the earthquake in Mexico, the storms in the Caribbean and Californian wildfires.
In Maths we have been looking at place value, addition & subtraction and problem solving. In English we have studied and written poetry themed around the sea (fiction), and have worked on instructional writing and newspaper reports (non-fiction). Our PE focus has been ball games and Mrs Muller has been taking the class for RE. For computing, I have introduced the class to a coding website/app called 'Lightbot', which they all really enjoyed.
Please feel free to speak to me at the end of the day on the playground, or if you would like more time or privacy make an appointment through the school office. I am always happy to discuss your child and their learning and I aim to be as helpful and informative as I can.
