Norfolk Schools Skiing Competition
We were all very excited and proud when a group of boys and girls came to school with lots of medals and trophies today! Well done for representing Yaxham School so well in the ski slope competition . We came 1st!
Yesterday, 14th March, each class had a skipping workshop, where they learnt lots of different skills and games. The children had so much fun and have definitely developed a passion for skipping! I will be looking into running a lunchtime skipping club after the Easter holidays. Children are welcome to bring in skipping ropes from home to play with at break times, as long as they are named and looked after.
Here are some pictures of our fantastic day.
Read Write Inc. Phonics
The literacy curriculum at Yaxham Primary School, is supported by Read, Write, Inc. in Early Years and KS1.
Learning to read is the most important thing your child will learn at our school. Everything else depends on it, so we put as much energy as we possibly can into making sure that every single child learns to read as quickly as possible.
We want your child to love reading – and to want to read for themselves. This is why we put our efforts into making sure they develop a love of books as well as simply learning to read.
Please find below some resources that you might find helpful, to support your child at home.
FAIRY TALE DAY
Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 have been investigating fairy stories and traditional tales, this half term.
On Thursday 12th February we held a 'Fairy Tale' day to round off our topics. Children dressed up as their favourite fairy tale character. Our knowledge of 3D shapes and measuring was put to good use when we built a scale model of Fairy Tale Land and baked fairy cakes. Children worked with Miss Watson to act out 'mixed up' fairy stories. Have you heard 'Red Riding Hood and the Beanstalk'?
In the afternoon, children were delighted to receive an invitation to a Fairy Tale ball. Prince Charming helped us to learn a dance called the heel and toe polka which we picked up really quickly. We listened carefully to some traditional fairy stories, then Mrs Lewis's group of year 2's shared their stories, in small groups.
We all had great fun!
