Sports and PE

Our Vision

For every child to be involved in physical activity and have access to a variety of opportunities to take part in new sporting experiences.

How do we do this through our P.E. curriculum?

Real P.E.

Real P.E. is a scheme that focuses on the foundation skills in physical activity which is accessible for all children, regardless of sporting ability.

Each unit focuses on one foundation skill: Personal, Social, Cognitive, Creative, Physical, Health and Fitness.  Skills are learnt and practiced through a range of non-sport based games and activities that run along a story or theme.

Each unit also offers a simple increase in challenge level so that all children can be stretched and develop new skills.  Each skill is broken down simply so that every child can access the basics to become successful. (e.g. starting with step, hop in yr R; moving on to skipping).  Skills are progressive through the year groups so that children are always building on what they have previously learnt.

Even the most sporty children can be challenged through Real P.E. They may be football experts but their social skills for example may be challenged in how to work with others and come up with solutions to problems / develop team skills.

General P.E.

The second P.E. slot is then for focusing on the sports.  Children can apply their foundation skills learnt through Real P.E. to a chosen sport.  The sports have been chosen to reflect the National Curriculum and ensure a broad coverage of technical skills.

P.E. Plan

Good practice in P.E. is for all schools to be providing at least 2 hours of P.E. in the curriculum per week.

Extra-Curricular Activities

We are pleased to have Community Sports Foundation running football sessions after school  for us this term. Reception and KS1 on Tuesday and KS2 on a Friday. https://www.communitysportsfoundation.org.uk/

Our PE apprentice supports physical activity within our morning club 2 days a week. She also runs after-school sessions based on children's interests.  This term she is helping our Key Stage runners develop their skills in preparation for a cross-country competition at the end of October.
Sporting Success

We are really proud that so many of our children engage in sports outside of school including football, kickboxing, rugby, skiing and swimming, some of them with great success.
Jacob in Year 5 is a keen skier and recently came first in the under 10's catergory in the All England Championships this year. It was be incredible to see him achieve his dream of skiing at the Olympics! Watch this space! https://www.derehamtimes.co.uk/news/success-for-junior-ski-champ-jacob-kinge-from-yaxham-1-6264440
